All of the UK’s major rail franchises are, ironically, run by companies that are wholly or partly publicly owned by other countries. Germany’s Deutsche Bahn, France’s SNCF and the Dutch Nederlandse Spoorwegen either own or have significant investment in all of the UK’s rail franchises.
